57th Annual GRAMMY Awards Nominees

The Academy Of Recording Arts And Sciences has been announcing Grammy nominations for the 57th edition. Despite the long list and the wide range of genres covered, I want to focus on a few of those categories which are aligned with UndercoverRockLife.
For sure, the first category I look at is Best New Artist. Just a note about this, cut and pasted from Academy document Final Nominations List: “for a new artist who realeses, during the eligibility year, the first recording which establishes the public identity of that artist”. This should explain the reason behind the set of artist selected: Iggy Azalea, Bastille, Brandy Clark, Haim, Sam Smith. No doubt on Undercover’ preference (Sam Smith).

The following categories I would point out are the indisputable Best Rock Album and Best Alternative Album. After have shared for free their latest album, Song Of Innocence, U2 get their umpteenth nomination for Best Rock. Black Keys, one of my favourite band, get indeed the second nomination, same category, after 2012 when they won with El Camino. But is Beck that gets all my attention within this category with his fantastic album Morning Phase.
Within Best Alternative, the quality of production is higher honestly. So, it’s really difficult to choose amongst Alt-J, St. Vincent, Jack White and Arcade Fire. Make your choice my friends, I definitely agree with that!

Finally, the last category that awards the “behind the scene”: producers, engineers and artists for sure. Album Of The Year.
No  doubt, my choice is Morning Phase by Beck. Definitely Beck is the outsider amongst the protagonists the Academy has selected such as Beyoncé and Pharrell Williams. Happy to see here Sam Smith that with his In The Lonely Hour broke on the scene with an ambitious project.
