Chvrches – The Bones Of What You Believe
Many rumors surround the release of the first album from Chvrches. Sometimes these rumors are turned into skepticism by the most suspicious insiders. Too perfect for being real.
I’m on the other side. I really love their work and reject to pay heed to talebearers and believe that the work is genuine and none ghost electro director is behind them. They’re a pure indie band – for sure in soul more than in sound – coming from Glasgow and formed by Lauren Mayberry (lead vocals, synthesizers and samplers), Iain Cook (synthesizers, guitar, bass, vocals), and Martin Doherty (synthesizers, samplers, vocals). They’re so indie that they recorded the album themselves in Iain’s house: full of details, all songs move towards a coral work where the sweetness and the brightness of Lauren’s voice is completed with minutest details by the strong musical structure of Iain and Martin’ talents.
Soon from the overture with The Mother We Share and We Sink, they want to clarify that anything is just a piece to fill the album and it’s not luck of the draw. And quickly you, my dear reader, stumble upon the first strong hit that during the last weeks has got huge visibility thanks to a very nice video Gun for moving ahead towards Tether which definitely measure the real impact and the substance of the whole. There’s a moment half way Tether that you, my dear follower, will realize Chvrches are impressive. After that, you can just go ahead and follow the flow and love it all: strong 80’s influence, dizzying sound waves, elastic and hypnotic harmonies combined to a great songwriting.
Lies, Under The Tide, Science/Vision are masterpieces. And like in every perfect album, the final song – You Caught The Light here – shines its light…intensely.
